The fifties and sixties and seventies were the era of rock'n'roll at it's most colourful, with Presley purple, lime green, USA red and hectic orange. Guests at this recently opened boutique hotel in cosmopolitan Fitzroy Street St Kilda, may experience a nostalgic buzz when they see those retro colours in the foyer.

In the heart of St Kilda's cafe, bistro and alternative scene with choices of 150 restaurants close by, the hotel attracts many guests such as playwrights, fashion designers, artists, actors and orchestral musicians. The hotel is situated on one of Melbourne's "Eat streets", close to the beach and Albert Park which hosts the Australian Grand Prix. There is easy tram access to the C.B.D., M.C.G., theatres, arts and fashion festivals, sporting venues, horse racing carnivals, comedy venues and renowned shopping precincts and markets. Limousine and bus services to the door are available.

Originally a grand Victorian mansion, it was built on this wide boulevard by an early mayor of St Kilda, who lived in it for two years before converting it to a genteel guesthouse, complete with croquet lawn. A deco style rear wing was built in 1933 with a further balcony wing added at the front in the 1940's. It was in 1966 that restaurateur George Mora and his artist wife Mirka bought the property.

The building's melange of styles has been united to produce a variety of individually styled spaces, from single rooms to large family suites. There are brightly coloured Victorian mansion suites, some with marble fireplaces, and Balcony suites overlooking the bustle of Fitzroy St. Boutique Hotel Tolarno's smallness of 35 rooms attracts the discerning corporate and leisure guest and is fast becoming "the place to stay".

Boutique hotel TOLARNO is set in the heart of St. Kilda's café culture and is minutes away from the beach, Acland Street, galleries, bars and the Sunday Esplanade Market. Nearby trams provide easy access to the centre of Melbourne.
